The benefits of sunlight are long and many, and we all want to absorb as much of that golden energy as possible. If you’ve taken my webinar on “The Magic of Sunlight” (available on my website) or you’ve followed me for a while, you understand how life-changing and transformative this information can be for your health. But it’s not always as easy as just taking off your shirt and sitting in the sun. If you come from a more northern climate with a low UV light index (as I do in Portland Oregon at Latidue 45.5), it takes time to adjust to stronger and stronger light spectrums as Spring turns into Summer. But if we decide to go on vacation in the middle of winter flying to a latitude closer to the equator with a higher UV light index, it can be quite a shock to the skin and system. I experienced this shift myself in February with a trip from Portland, OR to Puerto Escondido Oaxaca (Latitude 15; UV index of 12).
With this type of light shift, we are told to lather ourselves and our children in toxic sunscreen and cook those chemicals on our skin with a strong UV light index. This might be justifiable for wanting to enjoy the sun and be outside for as much vacation time as possible. But my favorite way to enjoy the sunshine is by intentionally building a sun callus. This way you can soak up as many rays as possible without the aggressive sunscreen use.
